Archeology and The Bible
Archeology does not prove the Bible beyond a doubt, but it does not prove the Bible false, like skeptics would have us believe. Proving ancient history depends on outside reliable sources. A lack of reliable sources does not indicate that particular history was fabricated. In the case of Bible history, skeptics depend on Egyptian history, which is scant and often rewritten over time. Egyptian chronology is very difficult to give definite dates, due in part to the habit of Kings reusing material from previous monuments and very often taking credit for building temples and monuments that were actually built by a predecessor. Egyptian texts are not a reliable source, especially when trying to use no evidence as evidence against the Bible. Egypt had one of the worst environments for preserving texts, other than stone inscriptions, which were expensive and time consuming. It was reserved for Royalty, who had the habit of leaving out any event that would have made the god-king look bad.
Past Bible scholars have added to the confusion by agreeing on a wrong period for Biblical events, especially the Exodus and conquest of Canaan. A date in the 13th century bce was arrived at for reason that seemed genuine at the time. It is no longer accepted by some archeologists or theologians, but history is difficult to change. The Bible actually places the Exodus in the 15th century bce, which will be shown to be in harmony with archeological discoveries. The evidence in favor of the Bible has always been there. It can prove the reliability of the history of the Bible.
